Our Story
Innovation from Empathy: The Hepo Story
At the heart of every true innovation lies a pain, from which a bold spirit rises to seek liberation. The story of Hepo begins precisely here:
from a deep, personal, and daily experience. We witnessed firsthand how my father, managing his Type 2 Diabetes,
had to rely on a manual glucometer every single day to test his blood sugar levels.
This tedious routine, coupled with the constant worry of charging existing devices and their unavoidable reliance on smartphones, placed not just a physical but also a significant emotional burden on him and millions like him.
We observed how diabetes management, despite its critical importance, often became a heavy burden rather than a source of freedom, due to high costs, the continuous need for charging, and an unavoidable dependency on smartphones.
These limitations hindered patients from living their normal lives and even pushed them towards the risk of severe complications.
This profound observation sparked an idea within a team of engineers and healthcare specialists at KTH, Sweden:
Why couldn't we build a future where glucose monitoring, instead of being a limitation, offered absolute freedom?
Why couldn't we design a sensor that powered itself?
From that moment, Hepo was born. The path was filled with technical challenges,
from discovering novel methods of harvesting energy from ambient waves to designing a sensor with the necessary miniaturization and accuracy.
But our unwavering belief in a shared goal – to improve the quality of life for millions, just like my father – overcame every obstacle.
Today, Hepo is more than just a glucose monitoring device; it is the embodiment of freedom and independence.
